Other verses that we can reflect on this Christmas season in anticipation of Christ coming again: “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.” Just as the Israelites of old anticipated the coming of the Messiah as the Redeemer of mankind, so we can anticipate with equal fervor the second coming of our King Jesus as the judge of all the earth and the rewarder of His fellow heirs. We get a glimpse of the awe and realization of God’s promises that Simeon had when he made the the statement in Luke 2:30-32: “For my eyes have seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, A LIGHT OF REVELATION TO THE GENTILES, And the glory of Your people Israel.” Have you ever wondered what it was like to be an Israelite during the time of the Old Testament with all these promises of a Messiah, a King, a Redeemer, a Savior and anticipating the coming of Christ? What was it like for those shepherds who had been taught all the things concerning this Messiah, to one night have an angel appear to them and declare that He had been born? What was going through Simeon or Anna’s mind as they welcomed Christ and His parents only eight days after His birth? How much love, how much grace God has for us! Before the beginning of time God knew that mankind would sin and spurn Him so He planned to send His one and only Son as the redeemer of mankind. God sending His Son was no surprise or afterthought. That aspect of Christmas that continues to amaze me. For thousands of years before Christ’s birth, God planned to send Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.
